2022.9.18 PaperArtsy blog project #13 'Fabric'

Hi everyone, it's Etsuko (My favorite things) with you today, and I'm here to share with you the Needle Book. I've created for the current topic: Fabric. using Ink & the Dog by PaperArtsy Collections.

I've always wanted to give fabrics a rust-colored stain effect. And for the current topic this time was 'Fabric'  so I tried this effect with Ink & the Dog stamps with Rusting Powder, and decided to make a Needle Book to use when embroidering with that fabrics. I am very happy to be able to use my favorite Pierrot and Fairy stamps here and show them to you.

Let's get started. The first thing I'm going to show you is the supplies I used for this project and this time I finished with iron rust stain, stitch and stamping without using paint.

Next as you can see these supplies, to make the rust stain effect on the cloth. I prepared PaperArtsy Collections Ink & the Dog stamps (ID-PT2ID-WGS3, ID-FR4), PaperArtsy Rusting Powder, Vinegar, Versa Mark, and linen and cotton cloths.

Rusting Powder is much finer than Seth Apter's particles on the right, and can express delicate parts of the stamp, but be careful not to suck in the particles when tapping off excess powder from the back.

I have used rusted nails and hardware to make stains on paper and cloth, but this is my first time using the stamps, so I was a little worried. Stamp using with Versa Mark in the same way as embossing and sprinkle powder then tap the excess powder off,  place the cloth on a tray or the like and to spray the vinegar 2 or 3 times  on it until good results and let it sit overnight.

After printing the image on cotton and linen fabrics and letting it sit overnight, the powder was washed off with water. On the left is the result of less time and less vinegar sprayed. The difference with embossing powder is that the printed lines are blurry, but I like it. I used the right one for the project book cover.

I used this fairy on the back cover and masked around the stamp with Post-it to reduce bleeding. On her head was blurry then I put her hat on. PaperArtsy Collection set (IDPT2).

Since I didn't use paint, I made a pattern with PaperArtsy Hot Pics set 2304 (HP1304) and IDR4 stamps, then tear or slow-stitched them then I made a collage for each page.

Here is theI attached and made the accessories and the lace frame for the cover in the final stage.

Vintage spools from PaperArtsy Hot Pics Stamp set 1214 (HP1214) was stamped onto paper using Ranger Archival Ink-Coffee and I used it to wind the yarn.

In the same way, I have used  PaperArsy Scrapcosy set 09 (ESC09) with Ranger Archival Coffee on the paper, and I made 'Handmade by' tags . Such tags are very useful when gifting.

Now let's take a look at some fun book pages using the supplies I prepared.
Decorate around the image with several types of lace and the leftover cloth was made the book belt. The pierrot's pointed hat was stitched from IDPT2.

The first page was collaged with IDFR4 framed pattern stains, with the previously made spool of yarn in the pocket. And it can store the pins and sewing needles.

The scissors and threaders are stored, and the stain cloth pattern is collaged on both sides.

It's hard to see, but the spring hook pattern is stamped on the tag and collageed stains and frame patterns.

I prepared the 'Handmade by' tags in the pocket on the last page, and large and small buttons on the other side pages so that they can be used at any time.

Now, my favorite fairy graces the back cover. The area around the fairy on the back cover was masked, so there was almost no smudges.

The goal of this project 'Needle book' was to keep it simple, making the most of the rust stains and the raw linen.

There are still many ways to use Rusting Powder, such as using a stencil, sprinkling powder around leaves and other thin and shaped objects as if they were masking, making rust water and soaking paper, cloth, etc. in it to dye it. I think it's good to soak overnight in water with salt or vinegar to stop the color.

Rusting Powder is available at stores that carry PaperArtsy.
There are still many uses for Rusting Powder
Thank you so much for visiting.
