PaperArtsy blog 2022 Topic#1 Opposites Attract Dark Orange & Turquoise.

Hi everyone, it's Etsuko (My favorite things) with you today, and I'm here to share with you Opposites Attract, Dark Orange & Turquoise.

The relationship between complementary colors is very dramatic and energetic, and my choice of Dark Orange and Turquoise here is a color combination that has always fascinated me. I used this combination to create The flip tags folder that was inspired by lovely Gwen Lafleur's. Mainly I used here are talented Tracy Scott's stamps, stencils and her Fresco Chalk Acrylic colours.

First, I will show you the outline of The flip tags folder in the JIF image.

Now I did to make a master board for the folder using Smoothy (Heavyweight) A4 white card. In this case, paint both sides with different colors of turquoise and orange, I was careful not to smudges on both side.  I used gel-plate with Fresco Chalk Acrylic (cerulean, sargasso, deep sea) and Tracy Scott set (TS187) stencil to make the one side, after it's dry I stamped Tracy Scott set (TS064) fern in Ranger Distress Oxide (faded jeans) to keep it down all.

For the interior of the folder, I used very inspired Autumn's Vaselin technique
I applied Vaseline to the TS064 flower and randomly stamped it on the other side of paper, sprinkled Infusion (Orange County) on it, sprayed it with water and dried it with a heat tool.  I was worried that the Vaseline would be sticky later, but it was completely dry.

Turn the A4 paper sideways and fold 5 cm from the bottom, then glue both sides of it. Now the folder is complete.

Next, I worked on the tags. I used mainly Fresco Chalk Acrylic (Cerulean, Sargasso, Deep Sea and Nougat) and PS242, PS187 and PS208 to make the base of the tag with gel-plate on the Smoothy (Heavyweight) A4 white card. (I always enjoy making a lot of gel-plate, but I keep the leftovers in stock.)

For the orange theme, I painted Fresco Chalk Acrylic (Cerise, Firebird, Tangerine and Banana) on another Smoothy (Heavyweight) A4 white card, then stamped Tracy Scott set 64 (TS064) on top of it and used colored pencils to create shading and fussy cutting. Also made pieces to stamps on white paper and use colored pencils.

I also did a couple of kinds stamping on vellum paper with Ranger Embossing powder (White) .

The tags were laid out in roughly this process. The size of the tag was 14 cm long, 6 cm wide, cut in the upper part. Lay out each piece, add the Alison Bomber quotes, back it with thick black cardstock, tie the fibers together, and voila!!

The first tag-Adding Tracy Scott mini (EM57) with Ranger Archival Ink (Jet Black). Quote from Alison Bomber set (EAB07) with Ranger Embossing powder (White).

The second tag- For the tag background I used Tracy Scott stencil (TS209) with Fresco Chalk Acrylic (Deep Sea) and also stamped the Tracy Scott set Clock (TS057) with Ranger Distress Oxide (faded jeans). I added orange blossoms and vellum flowers to the focal point and top and bottomAlison's quote is from the Alison Bomber set (EAB01).

The third tag- I'v used Tracy Scott stencil (PS224) with mixed Fresco Chalk Acrylic (Deep Sea and Snow Flake) and Tracy Scott mini (EM60) Ranger Embossing powder (White). Tracy Scott set (TS064) paisley for the focal point and vellum flowers. And Alison Bomber set (EAB03) quote.

The last tag- I used Tracy Scott set (TS055) small mandala and Ellen Vargo set (EEV05) with Ranger Distress Oxide (faded jeans) to the background, and added some focal point flower and fern and ended with a nice quote from the Alison Bomber set (EAB09).

These are all four tags.

And these are the detailed images of the flip tags folder.

I used this Tracy Scott (TS064) stamp as the centerpiece, the same goes for added Tracy's stencil for variety, and added the Alison Bomber quotes to give it meaning.
Tracy's work matches the vivid colors of this complementary color scheme, making it a fun project to work on. If you like this project, please give it a try too. xx

PaperArtsy Topic Journaling Gratitude

Hi everyone, Today I'm here to share with you that I would like to use stamps and stencils by my favourite artist Lin Brown and I hope I could express the beauty of nature in the four seasons. Lin's work is innovative, with great ideas and techniques that have always inspired me. As the Corona pandemic is now almost passed two years, I would like to say a big thank you to Nature for giving me courage and to PaperArtsy for giving me the joy of creating with them as my subject.

Today I worked with some of my favorite materials, vellum and acetate, as well as some basic technique cracks.

This is the book cover. The title is embossed with white powder using the Everything Art's alphabet stamp on vellum.  I like use embossing powder on vellum as it is heat resistant and almost never deforms. Also the translucent nature of the vellum makes the substrate look attractive.

I made the cover using Fresco Chalk Acrylic (Dirty Lime, Cerise, Cerulean, Tangerine Twist and Electric Violet ). These colours are then randomly applied on top of the Smoothy (Heavyweight) A4 white card, layered with Lin set 003, 024(PS003, PS024) stencils of the same colours and finally stamped with Lin Set 05 and Tracy Mini 57 (ELB05 and EM57) in Archival ink (Jet Black) to reduce the vibrancy. I like the technique.

On the background of the first page, painted Cerulean, Crackle Glaze and Fuzzy Cactus in that order over Smoothy (Heavyweight) A4 white card to create the cracks. When it dry I stamped Lin set 29 (ELB29) by Ranger Archival Ink (Fern Green) then I used Lin PS043 stencil with Grunge Paste.

I embroidered the daisy that Lin sometimes used embroidery in her art and added to the layers.

Using vellum, the flowers are embossed with gold and platinum powder then flowers were cut, and placed with the sentiment. A white card was added to the underneath of the first page card then both card edges were distressed. Then stuck to the cardboard base of the book. Here I have expressed the joy of spring.

For the background of the second page, I used Fresco Chalk Acrylic (Banana, Cerise, Cerulean) randomly, dripped with rubbing alcohol in some places and then stamped Lin Sets 29 and 34 (ELB29, ELB34), then splat with Cerulean.

One of the most popular events of the summer in Japan is the fireworks display, but most of them have been cancelled due to Corona. To remind us of this, I made a sunflower that looks like a big firework in the night sky.

The sunflowers were made to take up the majority of the card by adding lots of petals to create a gorgeous firework display. Smoothy (Heavyweight) A4 white card with Tangerine Twist, Tango and Banana painted in a gradient of petal sized circles Lin Set I stamped 24, 26 (ELB24, ELB26) with Ranger Archival Ink (Jet Black) and cut them out. I also embossed some ELB26 on vellum with white powder and cut them out too to make the large sunflower.

Then I added Alison's wonderful quote Alison Bomber Set21 (EAB21) to finish it off.

The third page is a collage of book papers and tags, over which I used Grunge Paste with a painting knife to create a little texture. I then sprinkled Infusion Terracotta and The Sage on top and sprayed it with water.

I stamped the Lin Set 29 (ELB29) cardboard stamp with Grunge Paste on the card, and while it was still wet, I created a background using various autumnal colours embossing powders. I wanted to use the leaves as a focal point, so I stamped Lin Set 30 (ELB30) in Snowflake by Stzon Pigment on acetate and fastened it over the background with fasteners.

I added a quote for Alison Set 01 (EAB01) to the top of the card.

The last page is a winter card.
I used Venice Blue, Crackle Glaze and Snowflake to create a background with a winter atmosphere.

Lin Set 22 (ELB22) flowers stamped in white on acetate, with a dark blue background to create a winter flower focal point.

I made a small frame for Lin Set31 (ELB31) sentiment and glued paper stuffing painted with white gesso between it and the white background.

This is the last post for 2021 and here I would like to thank all of you for visiting and commenting so warmly, as well as all the staff at PaperArtsy for giving me this opportunity. I really appreciate it.
Thank you so much for visiting.
Stay safe and see you 2022.
